3. Wild Animal Park. If you can’t make it to Africa this year, try the Kilimanjaro Safari Walk at the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park, a wildlife sanctuary for more than 3500 animals. Along the two-mile trail you’ll see herds of giraffes, gazelles and wildebeest stroll by on the 100-acre East Africa Field Exhibit. Then check out the storks, flamingos and pelicans at the Mombasa Lagoon. Contact: www.SanDiegoZoo.org.

4. Safari West. For a taste of the African experience, stay overnight in a luxurious tent cabin within the 400-acre Safari West animal park in Santa Rosa, CA. From the deck of each

cabin, guests can view grazing giraffes and then fall asleep to the exotic sounds of animals cruising nearby. During daylight hours, hop in a safari-style Jeep for a tour with knowledgeable guides. Contact: 1-800-616-2695; www.SafariWest.com.

5. Animal Safari. Hop on the zebra-striped bus, rent a zebra van or drive your own car for a chance to see a rhino, lions, tigers and bison in a natural setting near Pine Mountain, Ga. Later take a walk-about for more animal viewing. Contact: 1-800-367-2751; www.AnimalSafari.com 0 Oak Grove Road
