The San Diego Wild Animal Park
An Out-of-Africa Experience in Southern California
Owned and operated by the world-famous San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park is the only American facility of its kind—-a rural preserve where different species mingle much as they do in the wild, and where rare and exotic animals on the edge of extinction are bred and studied. Over 3,000 animals inhabit the 2,200 acres, representing a fabulous opportunity for animal-lovers and photographers to view nature up close. For families we recommend the "Roar & Snore" and "Photo Caravan" adventures. "Roar & Snore" is an overnight adventure for children 8 and over, and their parents. This unique camping experience gives you the feel of an African safari and includes guided walks, animal encounters, a campfire program, dinner, and the chance to experience the Wild Animal park at night. "Photo Caravans" are fun, educational and most of all a picture-taker's paradise--a great chance to photograph the exotic wildlife of Africa and Asia up close in open, natural surroundings. Tours are 3 1/2 hours long, take place on a flatbed truck and are best for children 8 and over. My husband and 8 year old son took a "Photo Caravan" tour last May and loved it! They had a chance to hand feed giraffes and rhinos and created memories that will last a lifetime.
