    The Adventure Log
LegoLand (Carlsbad, California)
An Amusement Park that Helps Children Feel Powerful and Creative

LegoLand was a happy surprise for me. We expected the Park to be sickeningly commercial, but it was just the opposite. LegoLand is very respectful of children, and young visitors leave the park feeling confident, powerful and creative. Heck, even the food is healthy and LegoLand's eating venues offer top-notch healthy cuisine. All of this does come with a price tag, though. Children cost $25 each and adults are $32 each. Add on food and you are looking at an expensive day. The cost is worth it, though, for children between two and nine years of age. Children in this age range will learn a lot, glow with pride at their accomplishments and leave feeling very good about themselves.

Our favorite attractions at LegoLand include:

Driving School - where kids drive real mini-cars through a mini-city
Skipper School - my son's favorite because he got to drive a real boat!
LEGO Factory Tour - see how Legos are made and packaged
Miniland - Fantastic replicas of Mardi Gras, New York, and New England. My children were so inspired they came home and built their own city.
Imagination Zone - thousands of Legos for you to build and hook up to a computer

Educational Highlights:

LegoLand has some pretty incredible educational programs. Resource packs are available for teachers which have lots of pre and post-visit activities. You can even arrange for a 45 minute activity to be led by a LegoLand education staff member. Field Trip rates are more reasonable ($9.50/student). Teachers and Homeschoolers can make reservations by calling 1-877-LEGOLAND.
