The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess
Phoenix, Arizona
** Selected by FamilyTravel.com as one of the “Great Family Resorts in Arizona” (March, 2002)
The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is a resort worthy of royalty. The grounds are expansive and the rooms are luxurious. When we were driving up to the hotel our children whispered, “Is that where we’re staying?” They were completely in awe. The hotel looks like something out of a fairy tale, with sandstone colored walls and white lights blinking throughout the landscaping. It was breathtaking.
The Fairmont Princess is very popular with families. Many of the parents we met were staying at the resort for a business convention and decided to bring their children along. The hotel is a well-respected business destination for conventions and meetings and the resort’s excellent children’s program makes it easy for professionals to take care of their business needs, while still spending quality time with their children.
The Fairmont children’s program is both fun and educational. Each day focuses on a different theme including Wrangler Day, Pow Wow Day, Green Thumb Day, and Fiesta Ole’. Art and craft activities reflect those themes and provide a memorable experience for the kids. For most children, however, the highlight of their stay is the swimming pool. The Fairmont’s pool is no ordinary swimming pool. It is a water park, complete with water slides, fountains, and the two longest water slides in Arizona. We had to apply extra sunscreen to our little red head daughter because the kids never wanted to leave the pool—they wanted to swim and splash all day. If you have a non-swimmer in your family you will really like the pool’s zero entry beach area. This is an area where the deck gradually slopes into the water, making it possible for even babies to crawl and frolic in the water. I normally can’t take the heat for too long, but at this beautiful oasis I was able to stay at the pool all day too, watching the kids from the comfort of a cool poolside cabana.
In addition to the “Sonoran Splash” swim area, our children also loved the resort’s catch-and-release fishing pond. By the time we arrived at the Princess our children had already been on vacation for a week. They were pretty tired and the fishing pond was just what they needed. We put together a picnic lunch and spent the afternoon out by the pond, my youngest turning summersaults in the grass and my older children quietly fishing with their dad. This was just the rejuvenative experience we needed and we finished up the day well rested and ready to begin exploring Arizona again.
The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is a large dynamic resort. There are 650 guestrooms, a spa & fitness facility, 61,000 square feet of meeting space, award-winning restaurants, and championship golf and tennis facilities. The resort’s seven tennis courts include a 7,000-seat capacity stadium court and the golf course adjacent to the resort is host to the Phoenix Open golf tournament. This resort has something for everyone.
After personally reviewing some of the finest hotels, resorts, and ranches in Arizona, we have selected the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess as one of the “Top Five Family Resorts in Arizona.” This beautiful resort offers style and comfort in the grand tradition of the southwest. We think you’ll love it.
