Enchantment Resort

Sedona, Arizona

** Selected by FamilyTravel.com as one of the “Great Family Resorts in Arizona” (March, 2002)

The Enchantment Resort is located in beautiful Sedona, Arizona. Native Americans felt that Sedona had special mystical qualities and today, "new age” thinkers believe that Sedona is one of the earth’s spiritual power spots. It’s easy to see why. Sedona certainly is one of the most beautiful spots on earth. When you drive into the area your whole body relaxes into a long sigh. Truly, this is one of the most beautiful areas we have ever visited.

Enchantment Resort is nestled among the red cliffs of Boynton Canyon. Although Enchantment Resort is best known as a romantic anniversary, honeymoon, and spa destination, the resort is also a great place for families. Our children were immediately struck by the beauty of the area and when we drove into the area we heard oohs and aahhs from the back seat. My artistically inclined son was also very impressed by the amount of art displayed along the street. Sedona is a mecca for artists and the shops proudly display life-size bronze horses, elegant pottery, and native American creations right on the sidewalk. My children came home awakened by nature and inspired to expand their own artistic efforts.

The Enchantment Resort is the perfect setting from which to enjoy these beautiful and mystical surroundings. Rooms are in little “casitas” which are roomy enough for an entire family and far enough apart from the neighbors so that you never have to shush the kids. Some casitas have kitchenettes, which makes feeding the kids so much easier than eating in restaurants three meals a day. Most casitas also have their own “kiva” fireplace, a charming gas fireplace that doesn’t put off that much heat, but adds a charming and relaxing ambiance to the room.

Right outside the back gates of the resort are canyon trails that take you among ancient cliff dwellings and breath-taking views. You can take a leisurely stroll with the entire family or you may even want to take a romantic hike with your spouse while the kids enjoy themselves at the Enchantment kids program, “Camp Coyote.”

Camp Coyote is for children ages four to twelve. Children do crafts in the morning, order room service for lunch, and then choose from a variety of supervised afternoon activities. They can swim, play boci ball and croquet, or go out on a hike with the resort’s resident naturalist. Kids have a great time playing with others their age and you can relax a bit on your own. You may even want to treat yourself to a visit to Enchantment’s spectacular spa, Mii Amo.

The Mii Amo spa at Enchantment is huge and gorgeous. When you walk in the door you are immediately struck by the beauty and serenity of the place. I especially liked their crystal grotto, which is a round room with a large, white crystal in the center of it. You walk around the room and then sit and meditate on the crystal for a while. When I did this I felt totally relaxed, as if all my troubles and worries were just flowing out of me.  I was also struck by the number of men I saw at the spa. Every where I looked I saw groups of men sitting around the table in Mii Amo robes, chatting away and sipping fruit juice. I also met a number of couples who had purchased a special spa package that allowed them to take exercise classes in the fitness center, pamper themselves with spa treatments during the day, and then retire to one of the spa’s luxurious suites for the night. I can’t imagine a more romantic weekend.

One of the things that impressed us the most about the Enchantment Resort, and in fact all of the buildings in Sedona, is the architecture. Even the McDonalds is designed to blend in with the landscape. The surrounding area is so exquisitely beautiful that no one wants to divert your attention away from nature’s creations and on to man made constructions. Enchantment’s 220 guest rooms come in a broad range of sizes and each is designed to blend in with the red cliffs of Boynton Canyon. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and elegant and offer special little luxuries like microwave ovens, fireplaces, gas grills for outdoor dining, and private viewing decks.

We think the Enchantment Resort is one of the Top Five Family Resorts in Arizona. Sedona has to be one of the most beautiful spots on earth and the Enchantment Resort is one of the most beautiful resorts.
