Drakesbad Guest Ranch
A Secluded Ranch Within Lassen Volcanic National Park

Drakesbad is so popular, there is a two-year waiting list for reservations (unless you travel off-season). Drakesbad is the perfect place to get away from it all and regroup as a family. The Ranch is located within the Lassen Volcanic National Park (a park as beautiful as Yosemite, but a lot less crowded) and some of the rooms are lit by kerosene lamps (Drakesbad doesn't even have direct-dial telephone service!). Lots of activities are available including hiking, fishing, canoeing, horseback riding, swimming in the natural hotsprings, croquet and badminton. Since there are no televisions, evenings involve campfires and quiet games in the lodge. Drakesbad is a full-service ranch so meals are included.

Educational Highlights:

Lassen Volcanic National Park has lots to offer—lava pinnacles, boiling mud pots, cinder cones and glacier carved canyons—but is most easily toured from Redding, rather than Drakesbad.
