The Resort at Squaw Creek is located just 6 miles from Lake Tahoe and is a handy base for exploring the area (a great bike trail is just down the road). You can ski right from the hotel or take the "Tram" up to Squaw Valley's beautiful "High Camp." In the summer, you can hike up the mountain, rent horses from the nearby stable, or swim in the pool (Kids love the 100-foot water slide).
Rooms are spacious, elegant and modern. Indulge yourself in one of the resorts 403 deluxe guest rooms, suites, or two-story penthouses. All are luxuriously decorated in beautiful mountain décor.
As a ski destination, Squaw Valley is one of the best. Site of the 1960 Winter Olympics, this area is a skier's paradise. If your children are too young to ski, they can participate in Squaw Creek's "Mountain Buddies" program. The Resort also has a unique supervised ski playground called "Children's World" which is perfect for ages 2-13. Our reviewer's children loved taking the cable car up the 2,000 foot vertical ascent to Squaw Valley's Base Village, where they skated for hours in the ice skating rink.
After a day of skiing or hiking, you'll want to relax in one of the Resort's many fine restaurants. Our favorite restaurant was "Cascades" which offers a family-friendly atmosphere, a great kid's menu, and dramatic valley views. You won't want to miss their breakfast buffet.
While you're in the area, we suggest you take the short drive toTahoe City, Donner State Park (where you can learn about the fateful "Donner Party"), and the Indian Weaving Museum (which has an interesting display of different "papooses"). Or, if you're looking for an exciting summer camp for your kids, you may also want to splurge and sign your children up for Squaw Valley's popular soccer camp.
We think that The Resort At Squaw Creek is the finest ski resort in the area and one of the Top Ten Family Resorts in California. Whether you're visiting in the winter or the summer, we think you'll appreciate the incredible beauty of this pristine wonderland.
