The Marriott's Desert Springs Resort & Spa
Palm Springs, California

** Selected by FamilyTravel.com as one of the "Great Family Resorts in California" (March, 2003)

The Marriott's Desert Springs Resort & SpaWhen our reviewer's children stepped into the lobby of the Marriott's Desert Springs Resort & Spa they stopped in their tracks and held their breath. Instead of walking into a hotel lobby, they thought they had walked into a tropical paradise. Straight ahead of them was an indoor lagoon, with waterfalls and exotic birds and Venetian-style gondolas. Before we could even check in to our room, our children ran to the gondolas to take a boat tour of the property. Talk about a spectacular first impression!

The Marriott's Desert Springs Resort & Spa is located on 400 acres of lush grounds and sparkling blue lagoons. In fact, this resort has so many ponds, pools and lakes, that if you looked down on the resort from above you might almost think it was built on water. Our children were awed by the fact that the resort had twelve pools. Their favorite was the Oasis pool, which had water volleyball and basketball available. And since Palm Springs and Palm Desert has 350 days of sunshine each year, these pools are very popular.

Children ages four and up can join in the fun at the Marriott's "Kid's Klub." This is one of the finest children's programs we have experienced, offering a wonderful variety of supervised activities and programs. Golf and tennis lessons are available for children as well as adults but most families simply play a round of miniature golf together. The Kid's Klub also supervises the children at the pool and keeps them busy with craft projects that teach them about the desert.

While your children are enjoying themselves and making new friends, you might want to slip away to the Desert Springs Spa - one of the top rated spas in the country -- with desert treatments to relax both mind and body. Our reviewer had a desert hot stone massage which was incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating. While you are at the spa you can relax by the pool, enjoy the steam room, and unwind in an aerobic dance or yoga class. This elegant spa will help you to look and feel your best.

The Marriott's Desert Spring Resort & Spa features 884 deluxe guestrooms that are spacious and luxurious, with spa-like baths. Each room comes with a private balcony where you can wrap yourself in the room's soft and cozy bathrobe and settle in on the chaise lounge to watch the sunset. The weather here is always perfect.

Many people mistakenly think that Palm Springs is only for the rich or the retired, but this just isn't so. Palm Springs is a wonderful destination for families. Your children will love taking the aerial tramway to the top of the mountain. It's quite a shock to be playing in the pool one moment and then playing in the snow just a few minutes later. We also recommend you take a desert jeep tour while you are in the area. These trips are incredibly fun and educational. You can visit an old Native American village, see desert life up close, and even step over the San Andreas fault. We also highly recommend the Living Desert animal park, but be sure to visit early in the day before it gets too hot.

Palm Springs is a great vacation spot for families and the Marriott's Desert Springs Resort & Spa is one of the most beautiful and exotic resorts you'll ever visit. In fact, we think the Desert Springs Resort is one of the Top Ten Family Resorts in California-perfect for your next adventure.
