| Greetings!
After numerous trips to REI I think we are finally ready for our trek along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and then on to the Amazon! Our own research efforts and planning leads us to ask our readers for their own stories about preparing for an adventure trip. Part of the experience is sorting through recommendations for shots, organizing your gear, deciding which layers of clothing to include and how to pack it all without exceeding the new airline weight limits! Ideas? Suggestions? We'd love to hear your success stories!

| Happy Hikers Find Challenge at Montana's Papoose Creek |
|
The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines the word extreme as: exceeding the ordinary, usual, or expected. This certainly applies to the Extreme Hiking package recently introduced at the Papoose Creek Lodge. All four hikes will be incredibly scenic with wildflowers, wildlife and vistas beyond compare.
The hiking trip, scheduled from August 22-26th, 2005, is a great chance for guests to challenge themselves physically in addition to enjoying the delights of a luxury lodge in a stunning location. With access to over 200,000 acres of the adjoining Lee Metcalfe National Wilderness Area, the hiking opportunities are virtually unlimited. Staff naturalist and professionally trained ornithologist, Jeremy Roberts, has put together four intensive hikes - each longer than the one before. Guests start the week with an eight- mile loop and a 3000-foot gain, including a small jaunt up to the Continental Divide for a peak into Idaho. The grand finale hike is 16 miles, and includes significant elevation change as participants climb up and over the Madison Mountain Range, sinking between jagged 11,000-foot peaks.
The Extreme Hiking package includes a daily yoga class and a daily massage to stretch and soothe aching muscles. A soak in the hot tub under the aspens, a glass of wine and a fabulous four-course dinner to guarantee a sound night's sleep for happy hikers.
Papoose Creek Lodge is located in southern Montana's Upper Madison Valley. Rolling grasslands and lush creek beds lead up to soaring 11,000-foot snow- covered peaks. This eco-tourism lodge accommodates 16 guests in the lodge and three woodland cabins, and is located just 40 miles from Yellowstone National Park. The Extreme Hiking package includes all meals, complimentary happy hour, four days of guided hiking, daily yoga class, daily massage, gratuities and transfers. This package is an extremely good deal for $3500 USD per person and is available August 22-26, 2005.

| Sea Kayak Adventures Invites Teens to Paddle the Inside Passage! |
|
| Can you picture yourself paddling the sheltered orca waters of Canada's Inside Passage, feasting on baked salmon and relaxing next to a campfire under the stars. Or imagine hiking through a lush rain forest, where bald eagles dot the trees overhead. It is not too late to join Sea Kayak Adventures this wonderful trip designed for families with teens. Words cannot describe the excitement and beauty you'll feel watching a powerful but gentle orca whale as its six-foot dorsal fin pierces the water's surface. Or, the experience of witnessing a dolphin's exclusive aerial show within a paddle's reach of your kayak.
Located in British Columbia, Johnstone Strait is the best place in the world to observe wild orcas (known as killer whales for their voracious consumption of fish). These sleek ebony and ivory mammals with their huge dorsal fins congregate in this breathtaking locale every summer to feed in the salmon-rich waters. The trip highlight is viewing orcas from the comfort of a stable kayak and listening to their vocalizations from a hydrophone. Experienced guides will focus on maximizing your opportunities for observing orcas and sharing their knowledge of whale behavior.
Don't miss this opportunity to bond with your teen family members and friends July 31-Aug 5, 2005. According to the experts at Sea Kayak Adventures there no experience necessary! Just come ready for fun and adventure.
